Assumptions
The aim of the project was to create a unique and immersive 3D animation that would tell the story of one of the attractions in the upcoming Qiddiya amusement park in Saudi Arabia. The animation was to present the adventures of a group of wanderers and discoverers who explore ancient ruins and discover forgotten Arab cultures. The key element was the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the production process, to speed up work, optimize costs and create unique visual effects. The animation was not only entertainment, but also educational and inspiring to the audience, presenting the richness of culture and history of the region.
Technology & Approach
The project combined traditional 3D animation techniques with advanced AI tools. Software for 3D modeling, texturing, animation and rendering, such as Autodesk Maya, ZBrush and Houdini, was used. Keyframe animation and motion capture were used to give the characters realistic movements and expressions. AI was used to generate textures, facial animations, environmental effects (e.g. vegetation, dust, clouds) and to optimize the rendering process. AI was used to create unique patterns and ornaments inspired by Arabic art and architecture. AI algorithms were also used to generate procedural terrain and ruins, which allowed for the creation of vast and detailed environments. The focus was on the narrative and atmosphere to engage the viewer in the story and transport them to the magical world of Qiddiya. The whole thing was edited and polished with attention to detail to create an unforgettable visual and emotional experience.
