Qiddiya Virtual Enviroments
Virtual environments for the Qiddiya project in Saudi Arabia
Client: Paradox Studios Dubai, Six Flags Qiddiya
Date: 2022-12
Category: Virtual environments

Assumptions
The project aimed to create aesthetically pleasing and realistic virtual environments in the Unreal Engine, which were to be used as background for film recordings of BHP training in the Qiddiya amusement park in Saudi Arabia. The environments were to depict different areas and attractions of the park, allowing for the presentation of potential hazards and safety procedures in the context of real-world settings. The key requirement was the ability to quickly change the environment settings, add or remove elements, and adjust lighting to meet the needs of specific scenarios. It was also important to ensure a high level of realism so that the training videos were as authentic and engaging as possible for the park employees.

Technology & Approach
Advanced Unreal Engine 5 capabilities were used, including the Lumen lighting system, which enables dynamic and realistic lighting in real time. Realistic materials tools such as Quixel Megascans enabled high-quality textures and surfaces. Modular set elements were created that could be easily reconfigured and combined to create a variety of spatial arrangements. Virtual Production techniques were used to allow actors to interact with the virtual environment in real time on the set. The Blueprints system in Unreal Engine was also used to create interactive elements and scripts to facilitate control of the set. Everything was optimized for performance to ensure smooth operation during recording.
